Earth Hour – Make a difference for yourself and for others!

Sunday, March 23rd, 2008

Earth hour is upon us – March 29th at 8 PM. During this hour many citizens all over the world will shut their lights. More than an effort to save energy, the earth hour is an attempt to congregate as many people as we can around this effort to save our planet from the excess of human consumption. I see it as a time to unite the world around a cause that affects all of us, and that will have a long lasting effect on the earth. Visit www.earthhour.org to become a part of this wonderful act of love for our planet and for humanity!

Sometimes we are overwhelmed when we read about the many negative effects that humans had and still have on our planet. If we created this situation we can also reverse it! Isn’t that logical? So let’s take action! There are thousands of things we can all do to help. A great way to start is by taking better care of ourselves. You might be asking; what does taking care of myself has anything to do with saving the planet? My answer: It has everything to do with it! When you take care of yourself you also become more appreciative of others and of your environment. You become full of energy and more available to help others and to see the holistic aspect of life. Once you are full, you can give back and take care of others.

If you are always running empty, your vision of the world becomes a pessimistic one. You begin to focus on the lack and start develop a mentality of scarcity where there is not enough for all. When you think this way, you invite stress and negativity to become a part of your daily life. All of a sudden, you see the world as a big battle-place where all you and others need to do is fight for survival. If you begin to take care of yourself, the mentality of abundance slowly but surely starts to take over. The more energy you have, the more you can give to others. Abundance is our birth right and so is joy! Start taking ownership of it by setting time for yourself every day. It can be a bath you take at the end of the day, a special tea you drink while playing with your pet, a time for prayer/meditation you set aside every day, a night-out with your spouse, a 15 minute break during the work day when you do nothing! The possibilities are endless… Pick one and start! Slowly you can incorporate other actions to your day. There is no time like the present to start!

Have fun celebrating the wonder of life and the wonder of yourself!

Become Free of Clutter

Saturday, March 15th, 2008

Imagine your home free of clutter, free of unwanted stuff and filled with bright light and clean spaces!  What a vision uh?  Well, I want to share with you a great resource I came across as I was reading my Real Simple magazine that will help you make this vision a reality.  There was an article on blogs and they suggested www.unclutterer.com.  Being the organizing enthusiast that I am, I quickly made my way to the link.  It’s fabulous!  They offer an amazing amount of tips on how to get organized and how to keep yourself organized.  And guess what?  The tips are not exclusively related to the physical aspect of your home!  What makes this blog unique is that they offer tips on how to organize everything; from your online recipes to your music, from your office to your car, from your cable clutter to your kitchen and even on your tracking numbers with TrackMyShipiments.com!  The whole idea is that as you start to implement a bunch of small changes in your life you automatically begin to change your habits and become a more organized and uncluttered person.

Take this “delicious” tip for instance; Del.icio.us is a website that allows you to:  Keep links to your favorite articles, blogs, music, reviews, recipes, and more, and access them from any computer on the web. Share favorites with friends, family, coworkers, and the del.icio.us community. [And] Discover new things. Everything on del.icio.us is someone’s favorite — they’ve already done the work of finding it. So del.icio.us is full of bookmarks about technology, entertainment, useful information, and more.  Most importantly, del.icio.us takes away the need to print out websites you’re afraid you’ll never find again. Instead of printing and then filing the paper, just save the URL to your del.icio.us folder and tag it so that you’ll easily find the website again.

Being a clutter free enthusiast, I can attest to the freedom that a clean and organized life gives us.  Use this inspiring blog to get ready and excited about spring cleaning!  Ah!  And while you are at it, take the items that you don’t use anymore and donate them to your favorite charity or to someone who needs them.  Recycle is the word!  Unclutter your life and do good; a win-win situation!  Happy cleaning!

The Moon and the Power of Being a Woman

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

I went to very interesting lecture a week ago about the hidden power of the feminine.  The lecturer brought out a point that I very much agree with.  She said that feminism has a major flaw: Women trying to take on men’s role in the world.  They did it in a way that did not honor their feminine qualities, instead, the female side was supposed to be hidden and put away in favor of the men’s qualities.  I recognize that this way of thinking was a necessary stage for women to get to where they are today.  I am grateful to all brave women who came before me and embraced the cause.  Their fight enabled me to do many things I wouldn’t have being able to do have they not questioned the status quo.  However, it is imperative for ideologies and ideas to evolve.  Today, feminism has evolved as well as our world and our way of thinking. We realized that the feminine qualities have much to offer to the world and to the betterment of our planet.  Women feel more comfortable showing their qualities and are more comfortable in their own skins.

The parallel that the lecturer used was the sun and the moon.  She compared the energy of men as the sun; out there, shining bright, ready to fight and burn whoever and whatever gets on the way of their dreams.  In contrast, she compared the energy of women to the moon; hidden during the day and yet always present, a hidden power with an innate ability to promote change.  As the moon wanes and grows it brings about change to the tides and in our own bodies.  The moon has the power to bring about change.

I believe we are much clearer today about the concept of being different and having different roles as men and women.  We have different tasks in this world and yet we deserve the same recognition, the same importance and the same respect.  When we understand the differences and respect men and women equally for who they are, it makes easier to work as a team, to be happily married, to raise emotionally healthy children, to grow as individuals and to help each other grow with grace.

Embrace change!
