The Secret of Relating to Others

Thursday, February 12th, 2009

maosThe greatest quality a human being can have is humility.  Why humility?  Because it gives us the capacity to relate to everyone.  A truly successful person is someone who can put himself/herself in the level of whomever he/she is speaking.  That’s what humility is.

To really listen to others, we need to silence our ego and give the floor and the moment to the other person.  That action creates the ability to relate to everyone.  Whenever we are having difficulty relating to a person, that’s a great opportunity to ask ourselves:   ”Why it’s so difficult to relate with this person at this moment?  What transformation must you go through in order to bring myself to this person’s level?”

Whatever it is that you are trying to communicate, pay attention to where the message is coming from.  It is our truth we are communicating to others.  The difference between imposing our truth and communicating it is our intent.  If we want to add to the growth of the other person, and if we don’t talk down to them, the message will be well received.  If the message is coming from frustration, pity or anger, those feelings will get in the way of a valuable discussion.

The biggest lessons we need to learn usually come from the people we have most difficulty relating.  Once we infuse the situation with Light and ask the right (and most courageous) questions, we take large steps on our personal development.

My wish for you – and for me – this week, is that we all be filled with courage to ask the questions and to listen to the answers.

Song of the Self

Friday, January 30th, 2009

1208300190_passarinho_dormiu_cedo_viiI found that the more I looked around to see what others were doing, the more I lost touch with what I really wanted to do.  The more I got in touch with my own particular mission, the more I felt inspired to follow my own path without seeking the approval of others.  The funny thing is that the more I did what I wanted to do, the approval and admiration from others came naturally.  At that point, it didn’t really matter if others approved of me or not. It was a nice by-product of me following my path, however, it had no effect on how I chose to live my life.

The most effective way to be attractive to other people is simply to express the best of yourself. Each bird has its own particular song, to define itself and attract others.  You need to find your own unique “song” instead of imitating others or joining with the general chorus.

On this coming week trust yourself, think for yourself, act for yourself and be yourself.  Feel the energy shift when the bliss of being who you are takes over the anxiety of pleasing others.

With energy,

The Journey

9131estrada1Like most of you, I also got a new journal for 2009.  My new journal has inspiring sayings and great pictures and it really makes me want to write on it.  On the first page there is a quote by Matsuo Basho that says:  “Every day is a journey, and the journey itself is home.”  Needless to say I loved it!  It’s all about the process of growing, the beauty of discovering oneself and being firmly grounded in the present.

When we see life as a process, we take the time to smell the roses, we learn to enjoy the time we spend with our friends and family, we become less anxious and we breath deeper.  We develop empathy and we learn to listen and to be of service to others.  We begin to see the beauty in the moonlight, the magnitude of our words and the effects they have on people and on ourselves.  We begin to treat nature with kindness and respect and appreciate the little things.  It’s all about understanding, way deep in our core, that life happens every day and not only when we get to the finish line.

Here’s an invitation:  Set your intention for this coming year using the following thought – “My life grows more expansive every day.  I am open to anything – and anyone.  I am viewing the familiar with fresh eyes.  My life is happening now and that’s all I have.”

Go on — let your intentions out and enjoy the clarity they will bring you!  Set your sights on the distance and enjoy the journey!

The Truth About Life

Thursday, October 30th, 2008

Life doesn’t have to be hard.  We were hard wired to live in joy and experience bliss.  In case of finding an obstacle or something we need to work on, we would simply face it knowing that it is for our betterment.  Imagine if we did that on a regular basis…  How much more enjoyable would our life be?  The word stress would probably have never been invented!  Most people spend way too much time convincing themselves that life has to be hard and that, occasionally, they would experience a nice ten day vacation a year and start it all over again.

A lot of us refuse to dream and still believe the myth that life has to be hard and that money is a huge obstacle to our happiness.  A lot of us believe that without a certain amount of money, we have no freedom to chose.  The illusion is that money would give you the freedom to choose.  I say the word ILLUSION because that’s what it really is.  A fisherman in a remote island in the South Pacific fishes during the morning and sleeps on a hammock in the afternoon after a nice lunch.  Is he a millionaire?  Far from it!  He simply does what he loves and lives accordingly.  Was Mother Teresa a millionaire?  No, and yet she lived the life of her dreams helping people in her native India and setting an example of service to the world.  She was probably one of the happiest human beings to ever walk the face of the earth.  Why?  Because she was doing exactly what she loved.

The question is:  Why spend the best years of your life waiting to be happy at the end?  Believing life is one set of hard encounters after another?  Life is what happens now, not 20 years from now.  Let’s face it:  You might not even have the next 20 years.  It is true, isn’t it?  We can slip in the bathtub, hit our head and die – God forbid!  The end.  All we have is NOW.

Sooooooooooooooooooo, how can you make the best of now?  Hint:

Always choose what you love!

Hope

Thursday, October 16th, 2008

Hope is a much needed concept these days.  As we navigate these times of ups and downs and the uncertainty about what’s ahead, we might be feeling a bit erratic.  After all, who can give us the answers?  No one seems to know which end is up and where to turn.  We are in desperate need of hope.

Our world is changing because we are changing as people.  We are acquiring a new consciousness.  We are becoming more mature as humans and giving more attention to what’s inside of us.  I don’t believe we are simply reacting to economics.  We are the catalysts of this change, and not the other way around.

That was the message of hope that came to me this morning.  Our priorites are shifting.  As a life coach I could see this happening with my clients and with people whose lives were touched by a spiritual experience or a major change in their lifestyle.  The more we become clear about our priorities and about what’s really important to us, the more we can simplify our lives, become more detached of material things and of feelings that keep us from growing.  The more we get to know ourselves, the more we want to know others.

We are entering a new era.  A new economic paradigm is unfolding in front of our eyes.  It will be one of living within our means, consuming less, listening more, connecting with others more intensely, questioning our need to work so hard and live to pay our debts, opening up more and letting go of our masks.  It will be an era of true colors, integrity and self-development.  It will be a time of hope.

As we go through this transition, let’s exam what’s really important to us and what our priorities are.  Let’s become conscious that we can create our own reality and that we already started to do that once we became more aware of our holistic relationship with others and with ourselves.

The moment we started to work on ourselves, began to question consumerism and shifted our thinking, that’s when we started this revolution.  I call it the Revolution of Hope!  Let’s ride it together and begin to create our own reality of hope.  Let’s welcome the new and face the questions head on.  The answers will come and the Light will shine brighter than ever.

With energy,

Ana
